SA Shark Conservancy

In 2007, when I formed the SA Shark Conservancy (SASC), I realized that no NGO in South Africa was focused on studying “less charismatic” sharks.  That is, the plethora of unique endemic species in our waters as well as commercially fished sharks. The majority of shark scientists were studying white sharks, raggedtooth sharks and other “sexier” shark species. As it had always been a personal goal to start my own NGO where I could combine sharks, science, conservation, and education, it seemed like an ideal opportunity to start my first company.
